Creatine: does it help older lifters too?
Reviewed by Joseph Korban, Certified Personal Trainer & Rehabilitation Specialist · Last reviewed 27 September 2026
Creatine plus resistance training beat placebo plus training in adults averaging 57 to 70 years old: lean tissue mass rose 1.37 kg more (95% CI 0.97 to 1.76), with better chest-press and leg-press strength. The pooled data came from 22 trials and 721 participants.
What to know
- Creatine only works alongside resistance training; it is not a shortcut.
- It is one of the most studied supplements, but anyone with kidney disease or on medication should ask a doctor first.
- Buy a plain creatine monohydrate product from a reputable brand.
